In a sermon entitled, "Satan: How Does He Operate?" John MacArthur reveals some pretty bizarre and outrageous theology (see PDF transcript below).
You have to understand, that MAC teaches that God does not speak outside of His Word, the Bible. In other words, the only comfort or guidance you will ever get from God is from reading the Bible.
MAC says forget these verses:
Hebrews 3:8, "The Holy Spirit says, 'If you hear His Voice, do not harden your hearts."
Jesus said in John 14, "I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you."
MAC claims that God has orphaned us...but left us a Book in His stead.
Jesus rejects this notion in verse 25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."
MAC claims that the Holy Spirit never speaks anymore, but in Mark 13:11, Jesus contradicts that claim, "Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit."
The Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:10, “But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God…” and in verse 12, “Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches..."
Romans 8:14 teaches, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God."
And there are many, many more verses that testify of the ongoing, present day ministry of the Holy Spirit.
In contrast, in an unbelievable twist of borderline demonic and blasphemous teaching, MAC not only denies that the Holy Spirit still speaks to us, but says the Devil DOES speak to us on a regular basis! MAC I hate to tell you if you never hear the Voice of God, but you daily hear the voice of Satan, you are on the wrong path, my friend!
Here are some quotes from that sermon.
He quotes some flake who told him about some secret demonic insider info:
"I had a most interesting conversation about a year ago with a young man who had been very involved in a society called the Mark Age Society which is a very upper echelon, demonic, séance-oriented, witchcraft-oriented group. They have contacts with many mediums. They meet in Santa Monica in a very large house. And they're very wealthy people that are involved in it, some of them are very well-known people in the music industry. And he was meeting with them quite regularly in this Mark Age Society and he was finding out amazing bits of information...which he was passing on to me. And I was getting information to which nobody in the world was exposed except this little group of people. He was telling me, for example, that those people have the knowledge of certain demons and they know where certain other demons are assigned. Now whether or not you can believe all the demons say is a good question. But what he found out, be it true or not, is very interesting. Likely there's some truth to it. He was saying that the demon who is in charge of America, the one who is responsible for propagating certain demonic influence in America is very high up in the U.N. He indwells a certain figure, who has some connection with America in the United Nations.
Now that's just one little piece of information he gave me. I don't want to tell you too much, or you're liable to get your brain boggled. He also said they told him where in the universe, supposedly on Mars and Jupiter, was the location of the headquarters of the demonic force. And this all was being passed on to him from mediums and spirits that they were contacting. And he was saying that the demons have a network in the governments of countries like our own by which they control these countries."
So MAC claims that the demons speak to people today, but he is not sure if what they say can be trusted. Really? You're not sure if a demon is trustworthy?
MAC goes on to ask:
"How does he (Satan) operate on Christians? Let's look at that. How does he operate in our lives. you and me? Well, this is really important. Give you several ways. Number one, by creating doubt. One of the things he loves to do with Christians is to make us doubt...to make us struggle with reality. In the last two days I went through such a struggle in my own mind over some doubt. You know what Satan was saying to me? "This whole Christian thing is a bunch of baloney." That's right. And I'd say - "Oh no it isn't." I didn't come this far to hear that. And I struggled with it. And I reassured my confidence by looking at the Word of God and by reciting verses. And I know my Redeemer lives. And I know that what I've committed unto Him, He's able to keep against that day. And I started saying all the "I know" verses. Satan tempts us all that way."
So when the devil tries to feed MAC some baloney, MAC really gives the devil a piece of his mind! (A bit of advice to MAC: You may want to keep all the pieces that you have left)
The shocker is that MAC admits that he regularly converses back and forth with the devil, yet he teaches that God NEVER speaks to him except through the Bible.
It must be rough being a pastor when you have a more intimate relationship with Satan than you do with God.
MAC goes on to say that Satan has other tactics:
"Satan not only hinders our service, but...and here's a biggie, he infiltrates the church. He infiltrates the church through false Christians and false doctrine, and one other thing, and this is really critical, he infiltrates the church through division. Satan loves to divide the church, just brings him glee."
Now, MAC, how would Satan do that?
By you teaching:
"God never speaks (except through the Bible) but Satan does AND anyone who hears the 'Voice of God' is either deranged or possessed."
No offense, but this is just sick, sick theology! I don't know about you, but if I had a pastor that said he has NEVER heard from God, but he hears from the Devil on a regular basis, I would run to the nearest exit as fast as I could.
But MAC wants us to trust him as an expert on the topic of the Holy Spirit? No thanks!
This is a classic example of Religion vs Relationship. God says we, the church, are the Bride of Christ. We are supposed to have a relationship with Him. Communication is the foundation of any relationship. Communication is both talking and listening. That's called PRAYER.
MAC says the Groom is too busy to talk or listen, so here...read this Book, while you're waiting for His Return. It would be like MAC buying a new 60" flat screen TV but he never turns it on because all he ever does is read the owner's manual. Or as if your fiance wrote you a letter from out of town and then surprized you at your front door but you wouldn't let Him in because you were too busy reading His letter.
I wonder what MAC would ever do if he actually did hear from God? He probably would have to scold the Holy Spirit for interrupting, since Lucifer already had the floor.
Please keep in mind, we are not down-playing the role of the Scriptures! God forbid! We are just trying to point out that the Bible's role is to introduce you to its Author, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's job is to introduce you to your Savior, whose job was to restore your relationship with your Father, the Creator.
You get the point, it's all about reconnecting with God on a personal level, like Adam walked with his Creator in the Garden.
But MAC claims that no Believer will ever personally hear from God, because for the last 2000 years God has remained silent, all the while allowing the devil to talk up a storm and lead everyone astray.
Then to pour salt into the wound, MAC insists that you MUST agree with his aberration, or YOU are the heretic!
